Dragon was formed in Katowice in 1984. After a successful performance at the Metalmania festival in 1986, the band got noticed by Tomasz Dziubiński, who soon offered the band a manager deal with his label Metal Mind Productions. ?Scream of Death?. ?The album describes the world after a nuclear war. In some extent it is a continuation of the theme set up by Fallen Angel. Evil is personified there in the form of Satan, while here it stands as a part of the human psyche. Everyone bears a seed of evil within, which in particular situations frees itself and causes aberrations to take place? ? Jarek described the content of the LP. The strict concept conjoining all the lyrics into one post-nuclear tale was depicted by disturbing sounds of string instruments and a rhythm pattern unusual for metal, also being enriched by some more complex vocal performances by Fred, which altogether made up for a dynamic missile destroying many rigid standards. ?The music which we play is as anti-commercialized as it gets. I don?t compose it thinking about billboard charts. I?m even afraid that lately I tend to write more and more complex stuff, which demands a lot of concentration from the listener? ? as Jarek commented on the new material. The ?Scream of Death? period brought the band their full artistic maturity. Dreams about popularity, being accepted by the media, giving regular concerts and receiving good reviews in musical press abroad have now come true. The band functioned on the international arena unscarred by the Polish provincialism.
