Popis - LOGO RHYTHMS:
Michael Baird plays the music of the Roto-Bongi, a people of northern Congo that were thought to have become extinct. But Michael Baird discovered the last group numbering a few hundred living near the Ubangi River, close to the border with the Central African Republic (or was it in an attic in Brussels?!). Scholars differ over their origins, but they are known to have wandered for centuries as far west as what is today eastern Nigeria and as far east as the eastern edge of the Congo rainforest, before settling in their present location. Amongst the various neighbouring peoples, they always had a reputation as stick-drummers par excellence, playing a set of five small closely tuned drums representing the sun, moon, earth, pre-life and after-life. The melodic approach has been passed down over the generations and is seen as ancient knowledge, reflecting a cosmic view of interconnectivity.
