Popis - TROSNANT:
“Trosnant” is the band’s first album with their new singer/fiddle player Meriel Field and, for the first time, there are songs on an Allan Yn Y Fan release! Meriel Field, originally from North Wales, has also persuaded the rest of the band to sing and there are some notable harmony vocals from Linda Simmonds and Kate Strudwick on songs such as “Si Hei Lwli Mabi”, “Moliannwn” and an especially tender version of a traditional Welsh song known far beyond our borders :- “Ar Hyd Y Nos”, which breaks new ground for Allan Yn Y Fan by featuring an exquisite arrangement for string quartet. Allan Yn Y Fan has not deserted the instrumental tradition with this album though – the band are heard at full throttle on “Tressle Bridge/Tenpenny Bit/Thunderhead” and a quirky version of two English tunes :- “Abbot’s Bromley Horn Dance Tune/Jump at the Sun.” Critical acclaim for the band’s earlier releases was forthcoming for the quality of the band’s own compositions and “Trosnant” features some great originals by accordionist Chris Jones (Castell Thomas + Madam Mayor + Ms. Gina Morgan), whilst flautist Kate Strudwick, inspired by our rehearsal location for the album, has composed the title track :- “Trosnant” - the awesome beauty of the Brecon Beacons encapsulated in a four minute soundscape! Gems from the Welsh traditional canon are not overlooked :- “Abergenni” is from the unusual Welsh stately/courtly realm whist the album opens with “Pibddawns Gwyr / Y Gelynnen.” “Trosnant” features twelve tracks and marks the further development of a band maturing into one of Wales’ finest musical exports and consolidating its’ reputation as Wales’ best Celtic band of the 21st century.
