Popis - INCLUDE ME OUT:
Not satisfied with the dozens of dollars earned by his debut 'Make Room For Snappy', Love Dogs saxophonist Glenn Shambroom is at it again, offering 2003's 'Include Me Out', a program of straight ahead hard-bop inspired originals. Featured is the front line of Shambroom (bari and soprano sax) and Billy Novick (alto sax, bass clarinet, and alto flute). Check out Glenn's first cd (2000) MAKE ROOM FOR SNAPPY, and his new cd (2006) BAND MATH, also available on cdbaby. ALL ABOUT JAZZ, FEBRUARY 2004: 'Glenn Shambroom is a baritone sax player and multi instrumentalist whose approach is reminiscent of the brightest work from Gerry Mulligan, in both his lyrical playing and his catchy themes. INCLUDE ME OUT offers a balanced set of original compositions that will win you over with their boppish swing and smartly crafted arrangements. Shambroom is quite at home in the melody. His playing is muscular without being gritty, and firmly in the groove. Shambroom and his tag team partner Billy Novick share a love for clean phrasing and fluid lines, and the two of them go through the entire reed section from flute to bass clarinet. The bittersweet ballad 'Nina's Dream' is one of the record's standout tracks, featuring dreamy interplay between soprano sax, bass clarinet and soulful tones from Tom West's Hammond B3. For straight ahead blowing, you can't go wrong with 'Asset Check', which swings in the fashion of '50's Pacific Coast jazz. 'The Pie Is Gone' is a hip cooker thanks to the addition of bongos, flute and accoustic guitar. All told, INCLUDE ME OUT is a distinctive outing for Glenn Shambroom. With his confident swing, shifting arrangements and strong compositions, Shambroom has managed to create a record that is both intelligent and fun. Include me in.' -Ken Hohman JAZZREVIEW.COM, APRIL 2004: 'Glenn Shambroom has again taken time out from his role as a member of the Boston area R&B/blues ensemble The Love Dogs to produce an outstanding collection of straight-ahead jazz performances with this disc of eight Shambroom originals. Shambroom grounds his quintet with a set of strong performances on baritone sax, except on a pair of tracks which feature his work on soprano, but he makes plenty of room for his bandmates, notably multi-reedman Billy Novick and keyboardist Tom West. While West's offerings give some tracks an undertone of good ol' soul jazz, the music never really goes in that direction. Shambroom is essentially a hard bop composer, with a deft touch for ballads as well. As a leader, he's willing to let his sidemen offer their flavors to the sound, so that while the music can be stylistically defined, it's never stylistically stereotyped. Strong compositions, solid ensemble work, and impressive solos make INCLUDE ME OUT a straight-ahead standout.'- Shaun Dale CADENCE MAGAZINE (www.cadencebuilding.com), MARCH 2004: 'Glenn Shambroom is perhaps best known as a member of Boston good time party band The Love Dogs. Unlike the mixture of jazz and blues heard on his debut CD MAKE ROOM FOR SNAPPY, jazz and his baritone and soprano saxophone skills are the focus. Shades of both Gerry Mulligan and Pepper Adams emerge, as he utilizes a confident, yet pliable approach. The compositons are all by Shambroom and take advantage of his front-line partner Billy Novick's skills on a variety of horns. Two ballads are featured, the sensitive 'Noddin' at Notodden' and the melancholy 'She Walked Away', a nice alto-bari sax feature....' -Jay Collins BLUES REVUE MAGAZINE, JUNE 2004: '...On his second solo album, Shambroom further explores hard-bop, crafting eight extended originals. INCLUDE ME OUT features some inspired compositions, including the uptempo bop tune 'Clean Sweep' and the melancholy 'Noddin At Notodden'. Shambroom focuses on baritone sax. Love Dogs lead singer Ed Scheer sits behind the drum kit for five tracks and plays bongos on the funky 'The Pie Is Gone'. Nice touches include a short but tasty guitar solo from Larry Carsman on 'Nina's Dream'...' -Michael Cote
