Popis - JUST THE WIND:
Sydney singer-songwriter- keyboardist Larissa McKay was raised in that easy Northern Beaches environment that also spawned the likes of INXS, Midnight Oil, Angus & Julia Stone and Richard Clapton. Her unique sound is difficult to label but reflects influences as diverse as Etta James, The Beatles, Coldplay and Sia. McKay’s growing catalogue of self-penned songs, though impossible to categorise, are laden with imagery and emotion, often sitting on an unpredictable chord structure. There has been a sell-out show at the Opera House, a spell at number one on Triple J’s Uncharted pop listing for her touching and funky Ricocheted, airplay on JJJ and FBI and other performances at popular live music venues such as The Vanguard, The Factory, The Beach Road Hotel, Manly Boatshed, Newport Arms, Supper Club, The Hopetoun, and the Manly International Jazz Festival. McKay will launch her second EP in early June. Like the first release, Soldier, and popular single The Rain, which features guitar gun and friend Pete Covington, the new compilation comprises largely her own work. The indie EP will again be marketed through her website and sold at her live shows and online. McKay believes that securing a record deal with a major label is tougher now than ever, though “that’s not altogether a bad thing”. “It makes artists work harder on their sound, their live performances and their musicianship – anyone who cracks a recording deal today certainly deserves it,” McKay remarked. McKay is heading off to the United States soon to check out the world’s most competitive and invigorating music scene on the west and east coasts. She has been booked for two appearances at the legendary The Bitter End, New York City’s best known and longest-running live rock venue, in the heart of Greenwich Village. “It’s a massive honour to play at The Bitter End,” says McKay. “That place opened in 1961 and reeks of music history. And now I’m a teeny part of that.”
