Review out on METAL HAMMER Italia (I), 07/2007: This month, we will begin with Northern Italy; Bolzano, to be precise. This is where SLOWTORCH hail from (www.slowtorch.com or www.myspace.com/slowtorch […]). On “Adding Fuel To Fire”, they come over as very genuine and natural. There are influences of rock’n’roll and stoner rock, they sound a bit like Kyuss at times, with the occasional hint at more extreme music, worthy of being compared to the late 1990’s Entombed. [Their] adrenaline-driven guitar work and overall biker feel dominate, most of all on tracks like “Another One Down”. What comes to mind is a crazy trip across the States, your ass on a good old Harley Davidson and bottle of beer in your hand. Slowtorch take you down the direct route (see Hangman 11), their style and attitude are those of a southern rock band, but with a twist – they add that special pinch of heavy metal insolence for even more fun…definitely worth your attention! Review on ROCK AND A HARD PLACE (USA), 02/2008: SLOWTORCH - 'Adding Fuel To The Fire' - 2007 One doesn’t usually think of Italy when talking about the Stoner Metal movement, but perhaps they should if more bands like Slowtorch start popping up. These guys fit right in with bands like Cathedral, Zeke, Dozer, Electric Frankenstien, Ironboss, Black Label Society, Entombed and Motorhead. I don’t completely like the term 'Stoner' for them as they lean more towards the 'Metal', especially in the guitar. Bruno Bassi plays a more Metal style and is really the backbone of the band. There’s also a fair share of double-bass going on and the songs are uptempo which again separates them from the 'Doom' style. I personally prefer this side of the 'Stoner' genre. Slowtorch would go over great at a bike ralley like 'Sturgis' with songs like 'Dirt Track', 'Sixwheeler' and 'Another One Down'. I’d be very surprised if we don’t hear more about this band in the future, hopefully being from Italy will have caused them to be overlooked. BAND BIO SLOWTORCH formed in early 2004 as a five piece called Godmachine. Bruno Bassi, Peter Tomasi - the founding members, Sebastian Goralik, Thiemo Micheler and Felix Bissardella, recorded their demo Generator in May 2004. Godmachine were immediately well received, also because of their resolve to rely on their own material instead of doing cover versions of well known bands. Despite this being an unusual approach for emerging bands looking for live appearances, their decision pays off, as they are asked to play a number of gigs throughout 2004. The highlight of Godmachine’s musical career comes right away, when they open the stage for Ill Ni?o at a local festival. 2005 sees the band’s vocalist and producer of Generator, Sebastian Goralik, and bass guitarist Thiemo Micheler leave the band for personal and musical differences. After a number of line-up changes, Godmachine become SLOWTORCH in September 2005. Peter Tomasi - vocals, Bruno Bassi - guitars, Roberto Bravi - bass guitar, Felix Bissardella - drums. They establish contact with Bolzano’s Morgana Records, a new local label that immediately takes the band on, promoting SLOWTORCH with all available means. Generator becomes part of Morgana’s catalogue. A year and a half after recording their demo, SLOWTORCH enter the studio once again and record (Go Down In) Style for Morgana’s Get Stoned, Vol. I sampler. This new song shows how the band’s sound has changed and developed, bringing Generator’s straight metal sound towards a groovier, more innovative style. Despite all the changes and setbacks, SLOWTORCH have kept on producing new songs which they regularly play at their live shows. Along with the band’s performance reaching new peaks, composing processes have also become more balanced. Their frequent live appearances helped them attract the attention of a number of webzines, who enthusiastically reviewed Generator, giving the band credit for both their live and studio efforts. In early summer 2006, SLOWTORCH leave Morgana Records and join Pillars of Eternity Management. SLOWTORCH ’s live activitiy sees the band regularly play Northern Italy and reached its first peak with a Berlin mini tour in April 2006, topped by a series of shows in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands in July 2006, and support slots for various bands including Mondo Generator, Colour Haze and Toner Low. In time for the European tour, SLOWTORCH release their 2006 promo cd, Scrap Metal & Oil Stains, which sells very well at the shows. Also, a number of radio stations from the US and Germany ask the band permission to play their material. In December 2006, new bass player Karl Sandner enters SLOWTORCH. On Friday, July 13th 2007, SLOWTORCH release their first full length album, Adding Fuel To Fire, duly celebrated with the Adding Fuel To Fire Release Party on September 29th in front of a packed house. The album is available in stores, from the band and from various webstores. Ever on the lookout for new challenges, SLOWTORCH played their first acoustic set shortly afterwards. The band embarked on a short tour through Germany and Italy in November and December ’08 and are now back working on new material.
