Popis - LIVE AT THE REAL MUSIC..:
Sentient are an entirely improvisational band, psychedelic in conception, with jazz elements, a tough groove with a definite nod towards funk and Afro beat (yes people will dance to them), and with strong trance flavours that are reminiscent of krautrock. Sentient are Steffe Sharpstrings (Here & Now, Gong, Planet Gong) on guitar and vocals, Steve Cassidy (Here & Now, Planet Gong, House of Thandoy, Dream Machine) on drums and Gary Subs Subassa (Karmakanix, Mecca, Dave Howard Singers) on bass.
This is their debut album, recorded at their debut gig in 2012 at the Real Music Club in Brighton. Improvised psychedelic music has its roots in the free festival movement - it's a mystery element, a fragile flower and does not always work... But what is captured on this recording has been described as the music you've always dreamed of. When it does work within a musical context it has to be treated with the utmost respect. It's the unexpected guest. It's grace descending. It's Magick. It's definitely greater than the sum of the (musical) parts and in this case bigger than Steffe, Steve and Subs. How and why it works is closer to chemistry than musical composition and it goes beyond personality/personal preferences of individual band members. The players become vessels... That's when the Magick can happen and Sentient have got it in spades.
