Popis - DEAR JOHN LETTERS:
The summer of 2008 marks the release of 'The Dear John Letters', the first full-length album from Winnipeg native J.P. Hoe. Calling the album, 'The musical mark I've wanted to make since my debut in 2003', 'The Dear John Letters' is a collection of 18 songs that are best described as a marriage of indie rock, alt-country, and traditional singer/songwriter. J.P. says the album is 'an honest mixture of melody and subject matter', he goes on, 'my first full length studio record exhibits a more mature J.P., both as a songwriter and a person'. Comparing the blend of sounds on 'The Dear John Letters' to artists like Counting Crows, and David Gray, J.P. says he drew from influences like Wilco, and Aimee Mann. Hoe credits many in music past and present for influencing him. From legends Bob Dylan and Neil Young, to his various friends who also played on his album. Surrounded by creative and talented people, J.P. has also attracted a team to support him on his journey allowing him to lend more attention to his craft. The inspiration to start writing music came in the most natural way for J.P., listening to multi-genre buffets of music from the sixties, seventies and many of the 'taste makers' from the past 15 years. 'My sisters' taste influenced me whole heartedly, though I was skeptical at first, she gave me plenty to sample'. Moving to Europe in 1998, J.P. began testing his early writing on audiences. Admitting his repertoire was questionable, the positive reaction he received encouraged him to continue shaping his craft. It's his longstanding relationships within hometown Winnipeg's music community that offers ongoing support to stick to his writing. July of 2008 will see J.P. take the stage at the renowned Winnipeg Folk Festival, a chance to share 'The Dear John Letters' live for his hometown fans and the festivals international audience. Performing at the Winnipeg Folk Festival is an honor J.P. won't deny, but the modest musician is quiet about his many accomplishments. He lists merely surviving as an independent artist, honing his craft, and earning his wings on the road as proud achievements. His resume also includes having sold several thousand copies of his album 'The Live Beta Project'. In 2007, J.P. was nominated for Outstanding Pop Recording at the Western Canadian Music Awards. He has also shared the stage with Jann Arden, opening for her on her cross Canada tour last year. J.P. has earned his achievements, but his goals are limitless as an artist. He wants to continue exploring pop music, pushing boundaries and delving in many genres including Roots and traditional Rock and Roll. He summarizes his goals into one simple explanation. 'I want to build and bring my audience with me from day one through until the end, being able to make a living writing and performing, touring and recording'. Ultimately what shapes the songs, the albums, and the performances is J.P.'s personality. He is a self-proclaimed Science Fiction nerd as he explains, 'I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to entertain on a star ship cruise'. J.P. is also known for his dry sense of humor, as much as for his desire to make people laugh. He admits his appetite may contribute to his motivation to tour as he is quoted, 'My tours are 50% about music 50% about food,' he can even recommend the best BBQ shack in America, 'it's behind an RV dealership in Hattiesburg Mississippi'. His stories of touring sound more like the recommendations of an experienced food critic quick to point out, 'I hate selling out to the fare served in many common restaurants'. His music has brought him to many destinations including Chicago, Austin and New York and the people he has met along the way have shared their homes, meals and friendship with J.P., along with whoever may be traveling with him. He has lived and performed on two continents, performed in pubs and stadiums, and shared his music with people far and wide. He is a Singer/songwriter at the root; a performer by nature, and 2008 will prove to be J.P. Hoe's breakout year. The release of 'The Dear John Letters' will mark the continuation of his creative journey.
