Popis - MORNING MANIC MUSIC:
One of the main actors in the Italian independent music scene for the last 25 years, Ernesto De Pascale, journalist, producer, the voice behind the microphones of RAI (italian national broadcasting company) as well as of many other radio stations, finally releases his first solo album, the long awaited “Morning Maniac Music”. “Morning Maniac Music” is not properly a debut album for the florentine artist: his first record was released in 1982 with Lightshine, the band he gloriously run to the final evening of the most legendary italian rock contest “Il Rock Italiano Mette i Denti”, won that year by Litfiba ( one of the most famous Italian rock bands of the 80s and 90s). On leaving Lightshine in 1983 de Pascale led his following band, Hypnodance, trough 4 influent albums between 1984 and 1989, playing everywhere in Italy. Ernesto De Pascale’s name appears on many of the most important Italian albums of the last 25 years: from the seminal “Siberia” and “Tre Volte Lacrime” by Diaframma, the 49 years old musician and producer signed the studio recordings of artists such as Assalti Frontali, Aeroplani Italiani, Steve Piccolo from Lounge Lizard, Massimo Altomare, Articolo 31, and of excellent minor artists like Strange Fruit, Ridillo, Dennis & the Jets, Graziano Romani and many others. Ernesto De Pascale’s international profile is top notch: he worked with Dr John, The Memphis Horns, Solomon Burke, Michael Toles from the Isaac Hayes Band,Louisiana Red, Zeena Parkins ( Bjork), Elliott Sharp, Jono Manson and with the English artists James Taylor, Brian Auger, Ashley Hutchings (Fairport Convention), Ken Nicol (Steeleye Span), Clive Bunker (Jethro Tull), Peter Zorn (Richard Thompson Band) to name some but a few. “Morning Manic Music” was born thanks to Ernesto de Pascale’s international profile. The artist, determined to fix in music the most important events in his private and public life in the last two years– his marriage, a long journey to the West, his more and more frequent journeys to Great Britain, many changes in the word of communications that directly involve him as a journalist – has focused the concept behind “ Morning Maniac Music”, nine original songs written early in the morning sitting in front of his grand-coda piano, at the bottom of Fiesole hills, north-east of Florence. For “Morning Maniac Music”, Ernesto De Pascale chose to have on his side Ken Nicol, excellent rhythmical and lead guitar player ( now member of Steeleye Span and Albion Band, with a ten-years-experience of the musical scene in Los Angeles and with a wide knowledge of rock language), and the excellent Kevin Trainor of the Jono Manson Band, from Colorado. After arranging the the contributions of these international talented artists, Ernesto De Pascale went back to his roots for building up the structure for “Morning Manic Music”, to the rehearsal rooms in one of the oldest basements of the beloved “florentine rock” (“il rock fiorentino”), inviting the rhythm section of one of the most convincing indie bands from Florence to join him in the project. The name of the band is Underfloor, a rock trio which caught the critical national attention thanks to “Rock Contest”, the long-lived competition for indie bands organized by the indipendent radio station Controradio and of whom Ernesto De Pascale is president of the jury. Lorenzo Desiati on the drums and Guido Melis on the bass (who is also the sound engineer of the Plastic Sun Studio, the studio where the album was recorded) grooves Ernesto De Pascale for the 37 minutes length of the album. The very young Giulia Nuti, student at a journalism class held by De Pascale when she was 16 years old, now 22 and already an in-demand musician, plays the viola in almost all the songs. Morning Manic Music features many other skillfull musicians from Florence: Francesco Bottai of La Macchina Ossuta (and collaborator of Articolo 31), Matteo Urro of Underfloor, Gianni Rosati at the pedal steel guitar and Paolo Giorgi, background vocalist in the whole album ( these last two, together with De Pascale, members of Lightshine since 1976). Francesco Gazzara (ex Hypnodance) on the Hammond Organ and musicologist and RAI’s collegue Stefano Pogelli came from Roma to join forces. All the nine songs of “Morning Manic Music” are recently composed. “Alive”is the dialogue between an angel that defend his town and a city dweller, and reminds the listeners of the “angeli del fango” , the young volounteers that help Firenze to raise its head againg after 1966 overflow. “Blackpool Babylon” ironically describes the Bingo-addicted inhabitants of the “Rimini of the North England”. “About a Girl and a Boy” is the story of the realistic meeting between a boy and a girl belonging to two different generations. “It’s alive” exhorts to positivism and to believe that this more and more oppresive word can come to a new life, and it was born while walking trough Paris alleys. “Lost Hollywood” is a mini suite inspired by the decline of the City of Angels, a metropolis that slips day by day closer to the Pacific Ocean. “I’m Only Playing The Game” is an invitation to play the game of life, standing proudly, living without second aims. “Endless Flight”, by Giulia Nuti, it’s a look on New York City, town that Ernesto De Pascale loves and in which he lived for a long time, written by someone that has never been there (for the moment). “There will always be a Light” talks about masters of life and its intimately dedicated to them. “’Till Morning Comes” reveals the author’s thoughts while he walks the beloved streets of London, got to know for the first time when he was 15. Composed, arranged and produced by Ernesto De Pascale for Il Popolo del Blues ®, “Morning Maniac Music” is an invitation to search for the real essence of entirely played live music, when contents in the songs outshine the mannerism and banal over-use of effects that “Morning Maniac Music” completely aims to avoid.
