Popis - ETTA DOES DELBERT:
“ETTA DOES DELBERT” Etta Does Delbert is a collection of some of my favorite Delbert McClinton songs. There is one original, bonus track on the record as well. I have been a Delbert McClinton fan since the mid-eighties. I was on the road as part of RCA Records, Dave & Sugar. We had a bass player from New Orleans playing with us by the name of David Hyde. I would frequently go out on stage at sound check and sing songs other than country. One day David asked, “What are you doing singing country music”? I really didn’t know how to answer except to say “It’s my job”. He then said, “You are not a country singer, you are a r&b singer”. I was shocked. No one had ever said anything like that to me. He suggested I listen to some Delbert songs so, I did.. Boy, did I. I fell head over heels in love with his voice and shortly after that, my time with Dave & Sugar was over. I immediately started singing around Nashville. I was doing a lot of Delbert’s songs. When I signed with Wrinkled Records, Delbert graced the record with a duet on “Leap of Faith”. I have since been released from the label but wanted record a new cd for the Delbert cruise. Bob and I were driving to church one morning and it hit me. I said “Let’s do Etta Does Delbert”. Bob thought it was brilliant and we got to work immediately. We hired former and current members of Delbert’s band which includes, Bob Britt, Kevin McKendree, Steve Mackey and Lynn Williams. I knew they would be able to do one or two takes on these songs. We cut 12 tracks in 6 hours. I called my dear friends, The McCrary Sisters as well as Scat Springs and George Pendergrass to come in and do background vocals. Delbert heard the tracks and loved them. He said it could easily win a Grammy in any genre. He was on the phone with me and said “I want to do something on this record”. I assured him he could do anything he’d like. He sang a duet on one and background on one. What started as a record for the cruisers has turned into a great record that I’m so proud of and feel it needs to released to the public, submitted to the Blues Awards as well as the Grammys. I think this record showcases my voice in ways my first one didn’t. My heart and soul was poured into “Etta Does Delbert” and I want the world to hear it.
