This all female new wave group from the East Coast played with religious symbols before Madonna did, and they wore plaid skirts while Britney Spears was still a baby. Due to their rebellious behaviour and image, they were banned from many US venues and radio stations. Though they were a popular live act and had a loyal following, the group never got the credits for being ahead of their time.
