King Mackerel & The Blues Are Running has been staged with the help of: John L. King Mackerel is grateful for the participation of the following organizations in its recent development: West Bank Downstairs Theatre, New York, NY; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, CD; Flat Rock Playhouse, Flat Rock, NC; and Charlotte Repertory Theatre, Charlotte, NC. Over the years, King Mackerel has raised funds for the North Carolina Coastal Federation and the North Carolina Nature Conservancy. Don Dixon is a singing songwriter who is also known for his production of innovative and influential albums. His solo recordings include “Most of the Girls Like to Dance But Only Some of the Boys Like To,” “Romeo at Julliard,” “E E E,” “Chi-Town Budget Show,” “(If) I’m a Ham Well You’re a Sausage,” and most recently “Romantic Depressive.” Bland Simpson is a member of The Red Clay Ramblers, and he teaches in the Creative Writing Program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He is the author of The Great Dismal: A Carolininian’s Swamp Memoir; The Mystery of Beautiful Nell Cropsey: A Nonfiction Novel; and Heart of the Country: A Novel of Southern Music. Jim Wann is the principal author/composer of the hit musical, Pump Boys and Dinettes, in which he starred on Broadways as “Jim.” He was the original “Jesse James” in the Off-Broadway and national touring success, Diamond Studs: The Life of Jesse James, which he co-authored with Bland Simpson, and he now performs Jim Wan: A Southern Man and His Music, in concert, from clubs to symphony halls.
