Who are Dark Diversion? Dark Diversion is a band and project formed by musicians and artists who want to explore music and technology without constraints. What's the origin of that name? The two words relate to our basic concept. Dark means concealed or secret mysterious. It provides contributing musicians and artists a sort of artistic pseudonym. Diversion allows those involved to try new and different things without impacting on their normal day to day lives. How would you describe Dark Diversion's music? Emotional rather than technical. The objective is to play music that can enjoyed by non-musicians as well as musicians; although the goal is not aimed at mass popularity. Simplicity is not always the best but is often the hardest to achieve. Who would you say are your main influences and what is the genre of the music? Mainly bands and musicians who try to push the boundaries so to speak. Maybe, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Riverside and Tool are good examples, but there are so many more. One of the merits of the Internet is the ability to listen to a wide variety of genres. Actual genre definition can be difficult... -Lets say ' Nouveau-Progressive', maybe other people can define a more appropriate term. Will Dark Diversion play live? Yes but it may not necessarily be the artists who do or did the original recordings; they may have other commitments or reasons. The music and performance will, of course, be representative of Dark Diversion. Who writes your songs? Anyone and everyone, there are no rules. It is entirely possible for one person to compose, arrange, play all the instruments, record, mix, produce and master the final product. What matters is the end result. What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? At the moment we are experimenting with purely instrumental music. The general feeling is that words can create difficulties through misinterpretation, misunderstanding, hidden meaning, etc., music is intrinsically more universal. As the main emphases is on the 'emotional' aspect it was decided to avoid the well established 'Love' theme and delve into the more darker side of human nature. Do you think these topics will change over time? Most definitely. Creativity from our 'Inner World' may seem dark but is also very strong. What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever's available?) No affiliation exists or will ever exist to any particular brand. At the moment we use / like / own / beg / borrow (but not exclusively) :- Basses - Guitars - Keyboards - Drums - And any sounds we like both natural and synthetic. What made you choose the instruments you have now? Availability. Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference? Each brand is evaluated and used if found suitable for the required song.
