A vinyl reissue of a notable 1962 album. A jazz harpist is a rare thing. First of all because the harp is a rather unlikely instrument for music that swings. Secondly, it's a difficult instrument to master, demanding a technique that is incongruous with swinging. Perhaps as important is the idea that the harp, by the very nature of the instrument, is likely to attract musicians who are improbable swingers. Dorothy Ashby is indeed a jazz harpist and, being a very rare exception to the rule, she does swing!
